Aktionen für Musiker wegen Covid-19, hier: Bandcamp und anderes

Da nun allgemein zuhause bleiben und die Vermeidung von persönlichen Kontakten angesagt ist, finden keine Konzerte mehr statt. Was einerseits sehr vernünftig und wichtig ist, bringt Nachteile für Bands, die hauptsächlich auf Touren am Merch verdienen.
Es gibt einige Anregungen, statt auf den Events direkt bei den Bands zu bestellen, viele verkaufen nun das, was sie für Touren  oder Festivals hatten anfertigen lassen auf ihren Seiten. Wer also vermutlich unter normalen Umständen am Stand etwas gekauft hätte, kann (sollte den Bands zuliebe) das auf diesem Weg machen.

Eine besondere Aktion gibt es bei Bandcamp. Am 20.März 2020 ab 8 Uhr gehen alle Bandcamp-Verkäufe direkt an die jeweiligen Bands und Labels, ohne dass Bandcamp seinen Anteil einbehält. Dies kündigte CEO Ethan Diamond an.

So people keep messaging me about how the virus affects musicians, let’s just say that the reality is bands are more or less travelling t-shirt salesmen. They have been for years.
Once you take away the ability to get out there and tour/play festivals you take away more or less all income if not 90/95+% at least.

I have for example 15 albums on Spotify, (not to mention all the other streaming platforms) written/contributed to with between them millions of streams.
To put that into perspective. The shortfall from streaming will not even make up 1% of what I have lost from cancelling tours/festivals and I’m far from being in the worse position.
The reality is I nor 99%+ of musicians will never pay the rent from streaming and this crisis among other things has made that insight more acute.

This is the sharp end of the spear for most rock/metal musicians who are of course not 100 million streaming Tik Tok celebs making music for 11 year olds….

So when you see posts asking to buy merch from bands, go to their own homepage and buy it, not a 3rd party where often times the band is getting 0.00 as a recouped license or 1 euro royalty before tax.

Spotify for example refuses to link to bands own merch pages, buy a shirt from them….the band in question gets nothing.
So go directly to the band

This virus is also going to hit small festivals very hard as they no doubt have flight investments they will lose, so go to their pages and buy last years merch shirt if they have one or even make a Patreon donation where possible or applicable.
If you’ve been to a small and independent festival and had a great time in the past, consider it might be gone in 2021. So for the price of one cup of coffee you might help them stay above water.
